About Austin Krueger
Austin works as a cost analyst for TDS Telecom in the Government and Regulatory Affairs team. He has a marketing degree from UW-Whitewater and has worked in various departments including marketing, sales and network services since joining TDS in 2004. He is a huge sports fan – if he’s not at work, odds are you can find him at Miller Park, Lambeau Field, Camp Randall or the Kohl Center watching the game. In his spare time, he’s chairman of a local non-profit, avid music fan, rec sports MVP and an early adopter when it comes to most new technologies.Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Smash Mouth
Astro Lounge was Smash Mouth’s first album with a switch in sound—a decision completely worth it. The album would go on to spawn a few monster singles, being used in major films such as “Shrek” and in heavily viewed commercials for companies such as Nissan. Even the critics almost unanimously agreed this was one of the better albums of the year, praising the laid-back sound with a mass appeal. Today it can be yours for only $5.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Styx
Living in the Midwest, when someone mentions a trip to Chicago, it conjures up thoughts of deep dish pizza, outstanding hot dogs, major sports rivalries, and entirely too much traffic. Rarely do most associate specific bands with the Windy City (with the exception of the Blues Brothers), since arguably the biggest act to come out of Illinois is a solo artist by the name of Kanye West. Today’s band maybe isn’t up there with the greatest acts of all time for many, but perhaps they should be.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Amy Winehouse
Amy’s process of making Back to Black was interesting: she would record her studio work onto a CD and listen to it in her father’s cab. She wanted to hear it how the majority of people would, and made tweaks based on that medium. It spawned five hit singles, was nominated for two Grammy Awards (and won one of them) and received unanimous critical acclaim. Today you can score this album for only $5.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Heart
Start your 2017 off right by putting on some good tunes, and Heart’s “Dreamboat Annie” certainly qualifies. Admittedly Heart isn’t the first band I think of in terms of iconic 70’s rock n’ roll, but they should be more involved in the conversation than they seem to be—a very under appreciated act that has so many good records.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Counting Crows
2016 has been another solid year for music and, in my world, getting exposed to more fun tunes from the CTT blog. Since today will be the last post of 2016, I look forward to another year of introduction to new stuff and continued exposure to hits from what seems like a past life. Today is a band from the latter—a group that sort of dominated ‘90s airplay, selling over 20 million albums to date.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Alien Ant Farm
Music fans can be fickle—one day there is a band that they can’t live without, and then they can’t remember the band’s name two days later. While that is extreme, today’s featured artist was on nearly every high school or college playlist in 2001 and my guess is most people haven’t even Googled them in well over a decade.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Whitney Houston
When people discuss pop music, a few acts always seem to come up as the best of all time. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince–and maybe Timberlake, or Bruno Mars for the younger music aficionados. Well the artist I’m listening to today is the most awarded female act of all time per Guinness World Records and has sold an estimated 200 million records worldwide.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Days of New
Often referred to as the “yellow” or “orange” album because of the cover and liner notes, Days of New's debut was almost an instant success. Backed by lead single "Touch, Peel and Stand" which rose to #1 on the Billboard chart, the entire industry was taking notice. Band like Alice in Chains and Metallica were calling the label to book them as an opener for their world tours. You can get this album today for only $5.
Cheap Tunes Tuesday: Blues Traveler
When you think of musicians from New Jersey, one artist clearly pops into mind over all the rest. Yep, you know him, The Boss–Bruce Springsteen. If you’re a big fan of his, my apologies, but he is not the artist I’m listening to today. Instead, I’m focusing on another Garden State standout—a group that’s sold nearly 10 million albums in the U.S. alone.
