Faster speeds now available at no cost to TDS Affordable Connectivity Program recipients

TDS Telecom is boosting the top speeds available as part of its TDS Connect product designed to help lower-income customers afford internet.

The company’s update makes up to 200Mbps symmetrical internet, where available, only $30/mo., including Wi-Fi. Customers who qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) monthly benefit are automatically eligible to receive the TDS Connect product. The ACP monthly benefit fully covers the cost of TDS Connect.

“Upgrading our TDS Connect product to deliver even faster speeds is an extension of our efforts to close the digital divide,” says TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Drew Petersen. “Technology access is a critical issue and one we take very seriously.”

An estimated 40% of households across the country qualify for ACP to reduce the cost of internet access. The program’s benefits give qualified customers a discount on any TDS internet service and some of those options—including TDS Connect—have no cost to qualifying customers. Customers interested in receiving the TDS Connect product should apply for the ACP program.

“It shouldn’t matter what your financial situation may be, you should have access to a high-quality connection,” says TDS Vice President of Marketing and Product Development Scott Schultz. “We encourage those living in our service areas to check whether they qualify for TDS Connect and ACP so they can take full advantage of these benefits.”

The ACP benefit provides eligible households up to a $30/month credit and up to $75/month credit in tribal areas. A household qualifies for the program if the household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or a household member participates in certain assistance programs.

TDS has a long history of participation in FCC connectivity programs, including Lifeline and most recently offering the Emergency Broadband Benefit prior to it becoming the Affordable Connectivity Program.
