The past five years have been a golden age for Star Wars fans. From the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to Disney+ shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, Star Wars fans have plenty of options to choose from.
The best part? The wave of new content is showing no signs of stopping. As May 4 is Star Wars Day, let’s look ahead at the most exciting new Star Wars shows and movies that have die-hard fans anxiously waiting.
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire
Starting with the most immediate, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire releases May 4 and will stream soon on Disney+. The limited series will take a dark look into the world of the Galactic Empire across six episodes. Viewers will recognize classic characters such as Darth Vader and General Grievous alongside fan-favorites Admiral Thrawn and Barriss Offee. Under the steady hand of creator and director Dave Filoni, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire should serve as a riveting tale of villainy in the Star Wars galaxy.
The Acolyte
For years, fans have been clamoring for a Star Wars property to be set in the time of the Old Republic. Those fans have finally gotten their wish with The Acolyte. Set 100 years before Star Wars: Episode One – The Phantom Menace, The Acolyte will take viewers into the High Republic era of Star Wars. Little is known about the exact plot except that it follows a Jedi investigation into a series of mysterious and dangerous crimes.
The Acolyte will feature eight episodes, the first two of which will release on June 4. You will be able to stream The Acolyte on Disney+.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Scheduled to release in late 2024, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will follow the story of four children who embark on an adventure of galactic proportions to find their way home. Starring Jude Law, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is said to be a coming-of-age story in the vein of classic Steven Spielberg movies, which should make it the perfect show to watch with your family or kids.
As with all new Star Wars shows, you will be able to find Star Wars: Skeleton Crew on Disney+ when it releases in late 2024.
Andor: Season Two
Andor, which took the Star Wars world by storm in 2022 with its explosive action and thought-provoking dialogue, will be back for a second season. Starring Diego Luna as the show’s namesake, Andor shows the birth of the rebellion that led to heroes like Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo. Andor: Season Two will be the show’s last and reportedly will use its 12 episodes to span four years and lead directly into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Andor: Season Two’s release date is still unconfirmed but rumored to be sometime in early 2025. Andor: Season One is currently available on Disney+.
