DVR on the Go

TDS TV offers many great features and benefits compared to other providers. I’m lucky enough to be a TDS TV test user, which means I get to try out features before they make it to our customers. The first one I fell in love with was the Remote DVR (RDVR) which gives you the ability to control all aspects of your DVR from anywhere you have an Internet connection.

I can’t begin to recount all the times that I completely forgot to record my favorite shows. I happened to be in the Caribbean recently when my favorite college team, the Wisconsin Badgers, was playing in the Big Ten championship game. Due to the time difference and the lack of channels in the room, watching it live was very improbable. But, I had an Internet connection and my iPad, so I logged into my account through the TDS website and from there, was able to access my DVR. I looked up the game in the programming guide and recorded it from afar. I even added extra hours to the recording time in case the game ran long, or I wanted to watch the trophy presentations. Needless to say, I was relieved.

Being gone for a week also makes me worry about my DVR’s storage space. I tend to not watch live TV much anymore, so my DVR is fairly full at any point in time. With my previous provider, the DVR would fill up and would delete the oldest program that I had recorded. Often, this was a movie I really wanted to see but hadn’t had the time to yet. That was always frustrating because I didn’t write down my recorded shows, so I’d forget which movies were waiting for me. With the TDS TV RDVR, you can manage your recordings from anywhere and eliminate episodes of a show you’ve already seen or anything else that’s a lower priority. Thankfully, I didn’t run into any space problems while on vacation, but I took comfort knowing that I could delete reruns of The Big Bang Theory remotely and keep the new episodes in a pinch.

It’s nice to not have to worry about my DVR anymore. Getting to spend more time planning my next vacation is definitely a higher priority than cleaning up my recorded programs. I hope I can keep finding great things like this with TDS TV!

About TVTesters

Austin and Eric are “friendly testers” for TDS TV. They’re both TDS employees who volunteered to be guinea pigs try our newest product and put it through its paces in their homes. They’re not getting paid to use TDS TV or share their opinions, but they’ve offered to share their honest insights here. Austin: I’m a technology nut with a deep rooted passion for sports. Being able to watch every game for the teams I root for is essential. When I heard about TDS TV at the office, I couldn’t raise my hand fast enough to volunteer to test it out. Whether it’s a new set-top box, interface, or channels, I’ll be testing them and providing my honest feedback. Eric: I’m a sports geek and a techie nerd. I play/watch just about every sport and I love to mess around with electronic gadgets. At TDS I have experienced everything from dial-up Internet to a super high-speed connection and have tested products before. My wife is sort of a TV co-tester since we watch most of the shows we record together. I think it’s pretty cool I get to share my TDS TV experiences here!

I am looking to sign up for TDS TV. Directv has a DVR app that is very easy to use & I would miss it. Is there a TDS DVR app coming for iphone?

Chris, we don’t have a mobile app yet, but we’re working on it! You can be sure we’ll be talking about here when we have more information to share.

        Good to hear. Thanks!

It’s October 2015 and TDS still doesn’t have a mobile app and TDS Telecommunications isn’t listed on the AMC Web Site as a cable provider. Without this, TDS customers cannot watch their favorite AMC show. So, no mobile App, No live streaming from the DVR, and TDS isn’t recognized as a major cable company by a popular network. Maybe a better question is, what is TDS doing?

Please update is on the app. By now “working on it” is in the distant past. When do you expect to have one. The full version site is near hair pulling even from a new mobile device with good service.

Hi Chris. What I’m hearing is that by July it will be available. It’s contingent on some Mediaroom updates happening, but that’s the latest information I have. (Note: I’m a customer too and am looking forward to it myself! 🙂 )

Thank you so much. That would be great!

So If we record as show on our TDS/Verona WI DVR will we we be able to connect via the TDS web site and watch a show we recorded. We currently rent an awful DVR while at our Vacation home in Naples FL ie Comcast land. It only records 1 show while we watch another, 3+ shows at the same time is hard to deal with.

Larry, unfortunately that’s not how it works. You can program your DVR on the go via the web. And, you can access TV Everywhere content if you have Internet access, but you can’t watch your recorded shows anywhere but in your home.

will being able to watch recording ever become available I know you have this option with Dish Network.

I’m trying to add cable t.v. to my home but my local TDS (88345) is having problems with the card that I need to connect my TIVO. At first they said they offer the cablecard and so far have not been able to come up with one. Does TDS not offer these cards for Tivo? (I don’t want another DVR I want Tivo).
