TDS supports Boys & Girls Club of Portage County

With so much bad news out there, we’re delighted to share something good. Since September of 2019, TDS has donated more than $5,000 in support or in-kind sponsorship to the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County.

The organization’s mission is to inspire and enable all youth—especially those who need support the most—to realize their full potential. They offer and promote opportunities for learning, foster community spirit and trust, and provide family support, just to name a few.

“The Boys and Girls Club of Portage County is unlike any other organization I have seen. The club offers a variety of free/reduced services to the community—from after school care to a safe place to stay during the summer,” says TDS marketing manager Ashley Heil.

Most recently TDS gave funds to support the club’s Grab N’ Go Meals program in response to the current COVID-19 crisis. Children 18 years and younger can pick up a free snack and dinner at the Berard Center in Stevens Point on weekdays. Demand for this assistance has grown more than 300% in the last few weeks, so we’re pleased to help.

In May, TDS will be providing a weekend meals as well.  “Ingredients will be sent home with some families and will allow kids and adults to engage in their creative cooking side while supporting a variety of local farmers and local businesses as well,” said Heil.

Beyond this effort, TDS was happy to sponsor desserts to go with Thanksgiving dinner being served by Boys & Girls Club. We also purchased tickets to a January University of Wisconsin Stevens Point basketball game for every club member. And, we’ll be sponsoring an education series for Boys & Girls Club members.

“Club dues are extremely affordable and I love that they offer free dental care at their Berard Center to kids who might otherwise go without dental care.  I truly love what this club is doing for the youth in our community and the ways they are willing to step up when people are going through tough times!” says Ashley.

We’re thrilled we’ve been able to support this vital organization. We look forward to continuing our relationship in the years to come. In the meantime, we hope you’ll consider joining us in helping this very worthy organization by visiting https://www.bgclubpc.org/.
