Last-minute Mother’s Day 2020 gift ideas

There’s little doubt that Mother’s Day 2020 will be the strangest one in years. Unfortunately, many families will be unable to visit in person due to social distancing, so here are some ideas give a gift to show you care.

Magazines or newspapers
This may seem old fashioned but getting a fresh magazine or newspaper can be a simple pleasure that arrives right to her door. Pick one that’s in line with her interests (cooking? cars? home decorating? technology?—there’s a magazine for EVERY hobby possible) or consider supporting local journalism and giving her a subscription to her community paper.

Instant Pot
Now that nearly every meal is home-cooked, an Instant Pot can open up all kinds of new possibilities. This beloved pressure cooker has cultivated a fanbase of chefs who have all but abandoned their slow cookers. It can whip up a delicious meal incredibly fast. The 6-quart Instant Pot Lux 6-in-1 V3, is versatile: It can cook slow or fast, at a low or high temperature, and steam and saute. (Hot tip: Williams Sonoma still has a few Star Wars InstaPot brand cookers available)

Jewelry
You can never go wrong with a nice bracelet or necklace. Make this gift even more special when you add the children’s birthstones to it.

AirPods Pro
Cool moms wear Bluetooth earbuds. The ultracompact, lightweight AirPods Pro feature a noise-isolating design that fits most ears securely and delivers top-notch performance for making calls. Moms with Android phones should look at the Jabra Elite 75t.

Wine of the Month Club
For a mom who likes to try a variety of wines, a wine of the month club is never a bad option. Wine Club Reviews has the best and most affordable wine clubs available. Check it out.

Shows and movies
We’re all at home a lot more, so now might be a great time to add to expand what she has available to watch. Consider upgrading your existing channel package to add shows and movies she’d enjoy. You could also give her the gift of a streaming service so she can curl up and watch with or without the rest of the family.

Time
Are there chores that generally fall on your mom’s list? Do them for her instead. This option doesn’t require you to go to the store or spend any money, but is both helpful and meaningful.

Local restaurant food gift card
Support the local economy and provide your mom with something to look forward to when you purchase one local restaurant gift card or a variety of local gift cards for her. It will provide a much-needed reason to go out when the local restaurants begin opening their doors.

Nintendo Switch Lite
This idea is for the gaming mom. The Nintendo Switch Lite can be hers, so she doesn’t need to kick the kids off the main console. Instead she can curl up anywhere and enjoy super popular games including Animal Crossing, which is all the rage.

State park pass
With movie theaters and concerts off the table for probably a while, everyone is getting out and enjoying the outdoors. Your mom will be able to explore new places (or return to old favorites) with a state park pass. In Wisconsin, you can order it online and have it sent straight to her door.

Comfy pants
Hear me out on this one: if your mom is working from home right now, she doesn’t need to dress up. And, even if she is working outside of the home, she’d surely enjoy some new comfy pants to enjoy on the weekends. If she’s retired she can ALWAYS wear comfy pants. Money Magazine recently rated the best yoga pants, but feel free to get creative and pick up some joggers, fun leggings, or stretch options that look surprisingly polished.

Flowers
Always appreciated are flowers. Whether fresh cut or flowers for her garden, send mom the gift that always brings a smile.

Kindle
Many libraries are closed right now, and your mom might also be avoiding the stores—both pose a challenge to a die-hard reader. Consider ordering your mom a Kindle e-reader so she can download books at home. There’s three different models so you can get her one that fits her needs and your budget.

Audible subscription
If your mom is a reader but you’re tired of trying to guess what books she might want, how about introducing her to Audible? Listening to books can be a great way to get some “reading” in while she’s doing other things she enjoys (or need) doing—and she can stay home and download what she wants to read to boot.

Jigsaw puzzle
Thinking ahead. Jigsaw puzzles are incredibly popular right now, so why not get in on the trend and give Mom or Dad a puzzle that solves to reveal a family photo? Shutterfly is offering jigsaw puzzle photos and while the turnaround may be too long for mom, here’s a chance to order one for your dad.
