Many times I get the itch to take a trip, but don’t have a destination in mind. I just need a break, or want to get away for a few days. When this feeling comes on, I tend to peruse airfare deals and try to find a reasonable flight to take me away from the exotic state of Wisconsin to somewhere much, much more exciting :-).

Here are two of the sites I use to find airfare on the cheap:
skyscanner_logoSkyscanner: I like using this site if I am looking for airfare, but I don’t really care where I go. My home airport, Dane County Regional (Madison, WI) tends to be a pricier airport to fly out of, so I like to search for flights from Madison to “Everywhere” and see what cities come up. I’ve found great deals for Philadelphia, New York and Colorado on this site, and it’s pretty fun to change the dates and see what deals come up to “Everywhere”. 🙂

AFWD-twitter-logoAirfare Watchdog: I sign up for the weekly low fare alert emails from this site. You can search for airfare from your home airport to “Anywhere”. Each week I get an email that tells me the lowest fares from Madison and Milwaukee, WI to many cities in the U.S. and I can click through and see if the dates work for me and if there is a city that I am interested in.

I use these sites in addition to my travel standby Travelzoo, which is the place I go to first to see deals from my local airports and last-minute travel deals. I recommend setting up alerts for many travel websites and acting FAST – as many times deals sell out or there are only a few seats available at the lowest price. Happy fare hunting!
