TDS highlights importance of recycling e-waste

Every year, Americans generate millions of tons of electronics waste, or e-waste. This includes many of the electronic products we’ve come to rely upon, like personal computers, mobile phones, televisions, and electronic readers.

At TDS Telecom, we deploy a recycling and waste management program to help divert and reduce waste from landfills. TDS recycles many forms of e-waste, such as audio/video equipment, network devices, imaging devices, bulk electronics, video display devices, computing devices, laptop computers, and wireless devices. TDS also uses a secure shredding program to safely recycle paper.

In 2022, TDS Telecom recovered 1,400 pieces of equipment which allowed 442,000 pounds of waste to be diverted from the landfill.

The Environmental Protection Agency notes that stewardship of electronics has many benefits. Not only does it reduce pollution, it also allows schools, nonprofits, and low-income residents obtain equipment they otherwise may not be able to afford.

TDS is especially proud when we can directly help groups in need, like with a donation of 130 refurbished laptops to residents at the YWCA in Madison, Wisconsin.

Check out the EPA website for more on where to donate or recycle and steps to take before disposing of your used electronics.
