Since the beginning of the year, TDS has been hosting pre-bid meetings in cities across the U.S. The meetings signal the start of the bidding process for areas where TDS has received American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funding to expand broadband Internet services.
At the meetings, TDS leaders and engineering firm representatives discuss the technical specifications and timelines for the projects. Construction bids are due about two weeks after the meetings; as quickly as possible, TDS is awarding contracts to the winning contractors.
Many of the projects are expected to get underway this spring. Our goal is to have all outside plant construction— digging trenches, boring holes, placing telecom cabling, creating sites for electronic equipment in remote areas—completed before the end of the year. Once complete, a process of inside equipment placement and connectivity begins. Then, high-speed Internet services will be available to new customers across the U.S.
