Vermont Lifeline Customers: Three important changes begin November 1

The state of Vermont is making a number of changes to how they administer the Lifeline program. These updates will impact new applicants to the program, as well as those who must re-apply and re-certify for benefits.

If you or a loved one participates—or would like to participate—in Vermont Lifeline, here’s what you need to know:

1. There’s a new application process.

Starting November 1, TDS – not the state of Vermont – will accept and process Lifeline applications. If you would like to apply for Lifeline, please contact TDS at 1-888-CALL-TDS, or visit our website for an application.

After November 1, 2017, any Lifeline applications sent to the state will NOT be processed or forwarded to TDS.

2. The Lifeline benefit structure is changing.

As of November 1, 2017, Vermont customers who apply and are approved for Lifeline will receive a $4.25 per month state credit, plus the federal benefit. If you have had Lifeline previously but your benefit has lapsed, you must re-apply to the program and will receive this credit amount.

Existing Vermont Lifeline customers will retain their current monthly state credit (plus the federal benefit) as long as they re-certify and maintain their good Lifeline standing.

3. You’ll be contacted directly regarding re-certification.

All Vermont Lifeline customers will receive a letter with instructions on how to re-certify before their program anniversary date. In most cases, this letter will come from USAC, the Universal Service Administrative Company. Re-certifying ensures your benefit will not lapse.

For more information about the Lifeline program, please visit our website. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 1-888-CALL-TDS.
