Savvy Spending: This One Simple Tool Can Save You a Bundle on Holiday Flights

Travel 2
Did you know that we have fewer than 100 days left in 2015? Scary thought, right?

The holidays will be here before you know it – or, if you’re some department stores, you already have red and white items on display.

While there are many well-documented theories about how to purchase the best holiday airfare (Tuesdays and Wednesdays are historically the best, around 10 AM), our best advice is simple.

Start early.

Like, now.

Really, now.

Well, after you finish reading.

Our favorite tool? Google’s Flight Search, available on google.com/flights. In addition to the simple ability to search various flight dates, times and airports, the “share” feature make it easy to coordinate with friends and family.

Set up “saved” flights to track prices over time – we were able to catch a more than $600 savings on flights to Ireland and determine that stopping in Las Vegas before a mid-winter ski trip would only cost $100 extra in airfare…. not a bad deal at all!

It’s worth noting that the tool only tracks flights and doesn’t allow for bookings. Reserve directly with the airline for top negotiating power if your flight is canceled or delayed due to weather or other circumstances.

But seriously.

Book early.

That’s our best tip of all.
