Nashville bombing impacts for TDS customers in Tennessee

Update for 12/31 10:30 a.m.
All calling functionality has been restored to TDS customers including local, long distance, and 9-1-1 calling. Please know if you are unable to be reached by someone using a different provider, the trouble lies with that carrier and not TDS’ phone network. The other party will need to contact their carrier to report the service difficulty. We understand this has been a highly unique and prolonged outage situation and we thank you for your patience. This is expected to be our final update.

Update for 12/30 4:45 p.m.

Significant progress has been made on phone service restorations. Please consult the chart below for the current status of call completion:

Additional repairs will need to be made at the Nashville carrier location for full restoration of all calling functions. And, if you live elsewhere in the Southeast or other Tennessee communities not listed, there could still be remaining impacts, particularly with long distance. Thank you for your continued patience.

Update 12/29 3:45 p.m.
A variety of phone services and 9-1-1 have been restored to many Tennessee communities (please see the chart below). We are still awaiting technical fixes at the carrier intersection point near the site of the Nashville bombing for full restoration for all customers. Please know there could be long-distance calling impacts across the Southeast, even though those states and communities are not included on the chart. Again, we thank you for your patience as we await additional repairs.

Update 12/28 10:30 a.m.
9-1-1 services remain down. TDS long distance services have been restored between TDS customers. However, customers in Tennessee and surrounding states may experience intermittent difficulties completing calls outside of the TDS network (including long distance, toll-free, and cell phone calls). This is a result of the Nashville bomb damaging equipment at a major interconnection point between carriers. Please know the restoration of other carrier services is outside of our control and we appreciate your patience.

Update 12/27 2:45 p.m.
Long distance services have been largely restored to customers impacted by the Nashville bombing outage. However, until all circuits have been fully restored, some customers in Mt. Juliet and La Vergne may still experience difficulties. 9-1-1 remains down. Calls to cell phone numbers are also not able to be completed at this time. Restoration of 9-1-1 and cell calling are outside of TDS’ control. We await fixes at the source of the Nashville damage and will update you when these services are available.

Update 12/27 9:23 a.m.: There are no changes to current phone service availability at this time. We appreciate your patience as we continue to make every effort to reroute phone traffic.

Update 12/26 3:23 p.m.: Tennessee customers: At this time 9-1-1 and long-distance phone services remain down to many Tennessee customers due to equipment damage near the Nashville explosion that routes calls for many telecom providers. Local calls between TDS customers can be completed. We are continuing to explore every technical option to reroute the impacted phone traffic and are working with local authorities where applicable. In many cases there are temporary solutions in place that may allow some customers to continue accessing 9-1-1 and long distance. However, there could be calling scenarios where these workarounds may fail so please continue to have an alternative number for your local emergency services available. In Wilson County, all 9-1-1 services are unavailable. Although Mt. Juliet authorities have a temporary solution in place, if you are unable to reach Mt. Juliet 9-1-1, please call (615) 406-5849. Please know this has the potential to be a multi-day outage event, dependent on the restoration efforts in Nashville.

Update 12/25 3:00 p.m.:
Important service update: TDS phone services have been impacted by the explosion in Nashville, Tenn. For the time being, 911 and long distance services are unavailable. TDS customers can reach other local TDS customers as usual. We are working to reroute phone traffic as best we can, but full restoration will depend on repairs in the explosion area.
