Vine: the newest social media craze

vineHave you heard about Vine? If not, don’t beat yourself up about it because it IS pretty new. Vine just debuted in January of this year, but since President Obama just posted his first Vine video on Monday (you can see it here), you’re likely to hear more about it if you haven’t already.

Vine is Twitter’s video-sharing mobile application. With it, you can create and post video clips that are six seconds long, or less. Vine even lets you embed the video elsewhere on the web if you’d like a wider audience.

Vine’s growth has been pretty strong. As of April 9, it was the number one most downloaded free app in the iOS Apple Store.

Of course, marketers are latching on to this new social media (for instance here and here). But regular folks are also really
embracing the creative possibilities Vine offers. Check out some of these really creative vines:

And here’s one being called maybe the “greatest Vine of all time”:

Vine has clearly captured the imagination of the younger crowd—my almost 16 year-old niece is constantly taking videos of the dog, her brother, and my sister to share. Want to give Vine a try? You can download Vine here.

If you’re already using Vine and love it, let me know. Maybe you can sway me into giving it a try :-).
