TDS Community Connections: Party for a Purpose, kids run, and more!

We’ve been at it again, working hard and giving back to the communities we serve (and live in!). Check it out:

Monticello, Minn. employees party for a purpose

Party for a Purpose is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money to help local cancer patients that might need a little extra boost. At the organization’s annual cancer awareness event on September 26, TDS employees Terrie F., Chad H. (and his wife), and Leigh Ann R. ran the 5K and Sue Corteau and Bo Nelson hosted a booth. All the funds raised stay in Monticello to help friends and neighbors in need.

TDS sponsors kids run

TDS, together with Cherokee Medical Center, sponsored a kids run for boys and girls ages 3-13 at the Centre, Alabama Fall Festival on October 3, 2015. The annual event featured more than 100 vendors of arts and crafts, homemade baked goods, jewelry, woodwork, civic and church group fundraisers, inflatables, and more.

TDS donates to Arizona Rural Schools Association

This association (which also happens to be a TDS customer) is dedicated to improving instruction in rural schools across Arizona. They promote communication between schools and connect them with resources, they help rural schools meet their educational goals, and they provide a unified voice to local school boards. For their annual golf fundraiser, TDS donated a variety of small gifts for attendees in addition to a backpack filled with goodies for a door prize.

Wings of Freedom event honors local veteransWings_Of_freedom_-Community_Connections.jpg

The Smyrna, Tenn., Rotary Club’s 13th Annual Wings of Freedom Fish Fry was a huge success thanks in part to TDS’ donation. The event reached its fundraising goal of $110,000, all of which goes back into the community via grants to help organizations in need of support. Approximately 1,500 people were in attendance to honor more than 75 local Vietnam veterans.

Mossyrock High School scholarship fundraiser gets a boost

The Mossyrock Garden Club in Washington hosts on an annual event to benefit a scholarship fund for local high school students. The “Look-A-Rama” features a holiday bazaar, silent auction, and a raffle drawing. This year TDS donated to the event which will be held the first week in December.

Volunteer fire fighters and TDS employees honored

Volunteer_Firefighters_Community_Connections.jpgIn recognition of National Fire Prevention Week, two TDS employees were honored in their local paper for also being volunteer fire fighters. Thank you to Bo Nelson and Shawn Leach for your extra contributions to your community!

Community-supported zoo receives donation

The Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wis. is continuing to transform into a world-class facility for animal conservation, but to do that, it needs support from business and members of the community. TDS donated in support of the park where funds help improve animal exhibits, educate children about the natural world, and provide exemplary care for the zoo animals, all while remaining admission-free for everyone.

Clicky attends MDA event

Clicky_MDA_Community_Connections.jpgTwo sisters and TDS employees, Michelle K., and Jen L. organized this year’s Madison, Wis. fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The Madison Muscle Walk took place October 4th and with the help of several TDS employees, including Clicky, the event raised more than $29,000 for MDA.

About Missy Kellor

Missy works on the Corporate Communications team and reports stories to TDS employees and customers. This is right up her alley because she’s an extrovert and also a big fan of research (really, she’ll look up just about anything that strikes her interest). Missy is a native of Madison, Wis. with an undergraduate in Anthropology and a master’s degree in Life Sciences Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her interest in the Internet as a mass media shaped her work towards a PhD in Journalism and Mass Communications. She’s also worked as an editorial assistant, copywriter, and production artist. In her off hours, Missy is a crafter, Pinterest addict, reader, wife, and mom of two kids.
