Mom’s Turkey Stuffing
Ingredients:
1 package of stuffing mix (I prefer Brownberry Sage and Onion)
1 apple (peeled, cored and quartered)
1 medium onion
2 tsps poultry seasoning
butter
Giblets (including the neck) from the turkey
Directions:
Remove the giblets from the turkey. Add the giblets to 1 quart of water and boil for 15 minutes.
Remove the giblets and neck and let them cool, but retain the liquid they were boiled in. Once the neck is cooled, carefully slice away whatever meat you can and add to the cooled giblets. In a food processor, combine the giblets, neck meat, apple and onion. Pulse until coarsely chopped.
Using the directions and quantities on the stuffing mix for preparing outside the turkey, combine stuffing mix, butter, poultry seasoning, cooled liquid the giblets were boiled in (instead of water) and the chopped mixture from the previous step.
Put in a greased baking dish and cover with a few pats of butter. Bake uncovered for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
