What do Jeff Gordon, Metta World Peace, and Amazon.com have in common? They all hail from TDS communities in Indiana.
Jeff Gordon spent his teen years in Pittsboro, Indiana. A town of about 3,000 people, it’s located just 21 miles away from Indianapolis, the racing capital of the world. Gordon’s family moved there to support his racing dreams. The community is described as a “sleepy town,” but if you visit, be sure to swing by Gordon’s favorite breakfast place Frank & Nancy’s.
If you head northeast from Pittsboro, you’ll arrive in Zionsville, Indiana. This town of 14,000 was the home base of famous NBA star Metta World Peace (previously known as Ron Artest). Zionsville is only 20 minutes from Indianapolis, but a world away in look and feel. Downtown Zionsville has paved brick roads which set a charming and quaint tone for one-of-a-kind boutiques, art galleries and dining. If more offbeat attractions are your thing, be sure to stop by the Antique Fan Museum. Housed at Fanimation, an internationally-known ceiling manufacturer based in Zionsville, the museum has about 450 antique fans, some from the early 1800’s.
Only 14 minutes away from Zionsville is Whitestown, Indiana. This town of 3,000 was named after Albert S. White, the president of the railroad that was built through Whitestown, as well as a U.S. Senator and abolitionist leader during the Civil War. Whitestown is also home of a 600,000 square feet Amazon.com fulfillment center. It is the largest Amazon warehouses in the United States.
