Are you ready for some football?

08-01-14 NFL logoFootball season is here! Well, okay – it’s really a month away yet. But it’s time to start thinking about where you’re going to watch your favorite team play, and how you’ll plan on watching those games. In the past, you huddled around your TV whenever your team was scheduled. If you’re a Packer fan like me, and live in the central time zone, the games could be Sunday at noon, 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 p.m; Monday at 7:30 p.m., or Thursday nights around 7:30 p.m. I would plan my day around this schedule making sure I was home to root the Pack on to victory.

Things are getting much easier, thankfully. With TDS TV’s Connected Home DVR, you can set the recording (even remotely) and make sure you watch it before you see the score on Sportscenter. The great thing about DVRing is skipping through all the commercials and watching a 3.5 hour game in about an hour (I’ve even heard of guys hitting the ‘forward 30 seconds’ button between huddles, but I haven’t gotten that crazy yet). That certainly helps to get things done on your to-do list…but now TDS has something else to help you watch sports on your schedule.

Recently TDS TV announced it is offering NFL Network and NFL RedZone as part of its TDS TV Everywhere programming. Everyone with the Expanded Plus package will get access to NFL Network Online while RedZone/RedZone Online still requires a separate annual fee ($42.99 for the year).

nfl_network-logoIf you click to the NFL Network Online today, you will be streaming the same programming that’s on the network in real time.(TDS TV channel 1612 in HD). Once the season starts, I have my fingers crossed they’ll have highlight shows and whatnot available on demand if you didn’t get a chance to catch your game of choice. It would also be a really nice feature if you could watch the Thursday night game utilizing the TDS TV Everywhere option. I could see myself projecting my tablet onto televisions at my relatives’ houses that don’t have NFL Network.

While personally I’m not a RedZone subscriber, I definitely understand the appeal – especially those who are Fantasy Football nuts. Since a lot of people I know flip back and forth between the Packer game and RedZone (TDS TV channel 1700 in HD), it would be nice to be able to have the online content up on the computer, with no more need to channel flip. That would be convenient for them, and less annoying if you don’t care about fantasy stats, but watch with someone who does. nfl_red_zone

The 2014 football season is almost here, and I can’t wait to watch Green Bay win another Super Bowl!

About TVTesters

Austin and Eric are “friendly testers” for TDS TV. They’re both TDS employees who volunteered to be guinea pigs try our newest product and put it through its paces in their homes. They’re not getting paid to use TDS TV or share their opinions, but they’ve offered to share their honest insights here. Austin: I’m a technology nut with a deep rooted passion for sports. Being able to watch every game for the teams I root for is essential. When I heard about TDS TV at the office, I couldn’t raise my hand fast enough to volunteer to test it out. Whether it’s a new set-top box, interface, or channels, I’ll be testing them and providing my honest feedback. Eric: I’m a sports geek and a techie nerd. I play/watch just about every sport and I love to mess around with electronic gadgets. At TDS I have experienced everything from dial-up Internet to a super high-speed connection and have tested products before. My wife is sort of a TV co-tester since we watch most of the shows we record together. I think it’s pretty cool I get to share my TDS TV experiences here!

So what do you have to do to sign up for the NFL pkg?Aand do you charge the full $42.99 or is it broke down into payments every month and added onto your bill?

Hi Brenda. Customers can add the Sports Tier (with qualifying TV package) for only $10/month with no commitment. NFL RedZone used to be $42.99 for the whole season, but we now include NFL RedZone in the Sports Tier along with 10+ additional sports channels.
