In honor of Earth Day, TDS is proud to highlight some of its ongoing efforts to reduce paper waste and create a more sustainable future. Through innovative projects and customer-focused initiatives, TDS is reducing its environmental footprint while improving efficiency and saving money.
One major step toward sustainability has been transitioning to sending email notifications for important customer account changes. Previously, every account change triggered a mailed notification, creating unnecessary paper waste and potential customer confusion. Email updates ensure customers receive timely, clear communications—while at the same time helping the environment.
Traditionally, new customers also received printed welcome kits, which consumed a lot of paper and contributed to higher carbon emissions through printing and transportation. Now we have started converting these welcome kits to a digital format, offering customers in many TDS service areas easy access to personalized account information.
Another impactful step in reducing paper waste has been ramping up paperless billing. In 2023, about 55% of new customers were enrolled in paperless billing. Now, the percentage of new paperless customers is about 82%. Not only does this initiative significantly reduce paper consumption, but it also streamlines the billing process and gives customers a more convenient, eco-friendly payment option.
TDS offers a free and easy way to pay your bill online, including setting up automatic payments each month. Signing up is easy and takes just a few minutes. Visit us online and search for “Payment Options” for more information.
TDS remains focused on finding additional ways to minimize paper use and promote environmental responsibility. Whether through digital communications, paperless billing, or other forward-looking projects, TDS is growing a greener future for its customers and communities.
