TDS Mobile is a great new option for many TDS internet customers, with unlimited plans starting at just $29.95 per month and by-the-gig plans at only $13.95 per month.
One of the requirements is that customers’ current mobile phones must be “unlocked,” meaning the phone isn’t tied to working with only one carrier.
But how can you check if your phone is unlocked? One easy way is to contact your carrier and simply ask – and if it’s locked, ask them to unlock it while you’re on the line.
Here are a few other steps iPhone and Android users can take to try checking their status directly on their phones.
Customers with iPhones should go to Settings > General > About. If “No SIM restrictions” appears next to Carrier Lock, it generally means your phone is unlocked.
Android users, meanwhile, can generally determine lock status by going to Settings (or “Connections” or “Network and Connections”) and then Network Operators. If you see multiple carriers listed, your phone is most likely unlocked. If you don’t, scroll down and select “more connection settings” and then press “Network unlock,” which will tell you whether your phone is locked to a specific carrier or unlocked.
If you find it’s locked, you may be able to request your phone to be unlocked here depending on the carrier. (Android phone settings vary by make and model, so these steps may be slightly different depending on your device)
If your phone is unlocked – great! You can keep your device, your number, and be well on your way to utilizing TDS Mobile, with an affordable price and a nationwide 5G network that will deliver the speeds and coverage you expect.
If you find your phone is locked, you will need to contact your carrier to unlock it. Most carriers provide instructions on their website or through customer service.
