Scary movie

The best scary movie…according to us

Picture this: It’s a dark and stormy night and you’re home alone. The strobe-like flashes of lightning combine with the pounding rhythms of the rain on the windows, making you feel like you’re the sole occupant of a dance club only found in nightmares. The sound of your phone ring tone adds to the unnerving dance mix. When you pick it up, you can’t even finish the word “hello” before suddenly being cut …

… off by your best friend who called for your opinion on what scary movie to watch.

Yup, tis the season when many of us are looking for chills and thrills—so which movie qualifies as the best?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the word best means “excelling all others,” but when it comes to scary, it’s pretty subjective. Is it a seminal work that inspired horror films for years to come? Is it a gory one that made you jump or hide your eyes? Is it the psychological thriller that kept your heart beating fast from start to finish?

TDS employees have spent the last month voting weekly on a scary movie bracket to determine the winner. Of course, lists of the best scary movies are miles long, so with the help of scary movie buff Austin Krueger (of Cheap Tunes Tuesday fame), we narrowed it down to 16 potential winners of the title. The decision was made to have top movies from the same decade go head to head—plus a few play-ins that were too good to leave out of the running.

What do you think? Do you agree with the results?

Even if your favorite didn’t make the bracket, perhaps these selections will inspire you to pull up something spine tingling this weekend and enjoy the (scary) ride :-).
