Seen on Pinterest: Healthy, Simple Breakfast Favorites

It’s well known that one of the best ways to start the day is with a healthy breakfast. But as the lazy days of summer draw to a close, our leisurely mornings grow fewer and further between. Try these healthy make-ahead options to start your morning on a good note.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the best breakfasts you can have, low in sugar, high in fiber, and perfectly filling. It’s also easy to add in flavorful yet low-calorie toppings, like fruit, nuts, or a drizzle of honey or pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Make it the night before – via an easy to prepare “baked” variety or a simple method of soaking called overnight oats, and your breakfast is ready in 30 seconds or less. You can even make a big batch of your favorites and portion them out in the fridge or freezer. Test our a new version every day of the week:

Smoothies

No need to go on a crazy juice cleanse to lose weight. Start your morning with a healthy fruit and veggie smoothie packed with vitamins that will get you through those AM meetings or school drop-offs in style. But don’t just swing through your corner smoothie store — these dishes are often packed with hidden sugars, sweeteners, and calories. If you’re pressed for time in the morning, freeze the solid ingredients in a “bullet” style blender overnight, or put your non-liquid ingredients in a baggie or cup in the fridge. That way, in the morning, you can just add ice, liquid, blend and go!

Muffins, Waffles & Pancakes

Muffins, waffles and pancakes don’t have to be carb-filled, empty calories. Make a big batch of these on Sunday mornings and enjoy the leftovers all week long. Whole grains, fruits, and reasonable portions keep these feeling healthy, not heavy. Don’t like mushy microwave waffles? Try dropping them in your toaster – they’re way better than Eggos!

Hearty Favorites

You can still eat a breakfast sandwich, burrito, or even eggs for breakfast. Just make a few healthy tweaks (whole wheat for white bread, low fat cheese for full-fat, turkey bacon for regular) and you’ll enjoy a hearty yet low-calorie start to your day. The best news? You can make these ahead and re-heat, or whip up within just a few minutes in the morning.
