TDS 50 for 50

Two more 50th anniversary charitable donations

June marks the halfway point in the TDS 50 for 50 Golden Year of Giving initiative.

If you didn’t read about it before, here’s a quick recap: throughout the year and in celebration of Telephone and Data Systems’ 50th birthday, the company is giving $50,000 to charities across the country in conjunction with its subsidiaries—TDS Telecom, OneNeck IT Solutions, Suttle-Straus and U.S. Cellular.

The funds are being given to charities nominated and chosen by employees from all of the companies. In May we told about about three of the TDS-selected charities that were awarded funds, and we’re pleased to share that two more have been added to list of winners!

Check them out:

Friends of Oregon (WI) School District

friends-of-oregon.pngFriends of Oregon School District, founded by parents in the Oregon (Wisconsin) School District, is an organization devoted to eliminating barriers to success for students. Some of the obstacles the charity helps students overcome are hunger, transportation to and from school, extracurricular activities, access to technology, and adult role models and mentors. The charity was nominated by a TDS Telecom Senior Network Specialist, a parent in the school district, because has seen the positive impact the organization has had on his children’s classmates.

Guide Dogs for the Blind Inc.

Guide Dogs for the Blind Inc. is an industry-leading guide dog school that has been creating relationships between people, dogs, and communities since 1942. The non-profit prepares highly-qualified guide dogs to serve and empower blind and low-vision individuals free of charge thanks to a robust network of instructors, puppy raisers, volunteers, and donors. The free services for clients in need include personalized training and post-graduation support with the dogs, as well as financial assistance for veterinary care. A BendBroadband Warehouse Technician nominated the organization because of the impact she has seen it have on people throughout her past 20 years as both a club leader and puppy raiser. She first got involved with the organization as a fifth grader training her first puppy, and has been committed to helping as much as can ever since.

Stay tuned for more announcements to come! Employees will be nominating and voting to give away money through the end of this year.
