TDS celebrates Black History Month at Wisconsin Herd game

TDS sponsored Black History Month Night at the Feb. 7 Wisconsin Herd game in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, which featured specialty jerseys that attracted national attention in the days leading up to the game.

The jerseys featured a variety of influential Black leaders, ranging from historical figures like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, to former Harlem Globetrotters Paul “Showtime” Gaffney and Herbert “Flight Time” Lang, who were on hand for the game.

The jerseys, which include the TDS logo on the front, were featured on the popular TNT program “Inside the NBA” Feb. 2 (The Herd is the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks). Kenny Smith, a former NBA player and co-host of the show, was one of the featured leaders on the jerseys and showed them off alongside co-hosts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley.

The jerseys are being auctioned off through Feb. 14 with proceeds benefitting the Harold Lefty Williams Dare2Dream Foundation, which works to improve the quality of life for youth and young adults in order to strengthen communities.

John Greene, TDS Inc. vice president of Enterprise Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Scott Schultz, vice president of Marketing and Product Development, were on hand for a halftime ceremony, joining a large contingent of TDS associates at the game.

“We jumped at the opportunity to celebrate Black History Month and were honored to be part of a special night,” said Jolene Heuchert, associate manager of Field Marketing in Oshkosh who spearheaded TDS’ sponsorship. “The Wisconsin Herd brings vitality to Oshkosh with family-friendly entertainment. In addition to basketball, I appreciate that the Herd gives local kids in dance groups, choirs, and bands the chance to showcase their talents through halftime performances. We’re excited to continue our partnership with the Herd, which also includes sponsorship of Black History Month celebrations in 2024 and 2025.”
