Labor Day Cookout Essentials!

It’s nearly September and Labor Day is just days away!  Originating in 1882, Labor Day is a national holiday celebrated each year on the first Monday of September. The day was created by the labor movement to celebrate American workers and their social and economic achievements.

Many people use the holiday as a way to unwind from work and mark the end of summer. Labor Day is celebrated with parades, speeches, as well as having the last summer cookout. To make the most out of your Labor Day and to celebrate
with food, here is a compilation of ideas to make
your last summer cookout great!

Appetizers

Pasta Salad – Summer is filled with great salads, whether it is a green salad, potato salad—or a pasta salad. Check out four pasta salad variations to share at your Labor Day cookout!

Mac n’ Cheese Muffins – If you’re looking for a great side at your cookout, Mac n’ Cheese Muffins might be the perfect thing! You can’t go wrong with a Mac n’ Cheese inspired dish because who doesn’t love the classic cheesy pasta?

Main Courses

Grilled Pizza – If you want to use your grill this Labor Day, but you’re tired of the traditional things, try Grilled Pizza! Check out Food Network’s grilled pizza recipe and make the recipe easier by substituting the home made dough for pre-made flatbread or pizza crust.

Bunless Burger Bites – Inspired by sliders are Bunless Burger Bites. These are great for a buffet style meal because they are easy to eat and are small so you can try a variety of different foods. To make these, make small burger patties (meatball size), grill them, add cheese and once cooked, skewer them with all your favorite burger toppings like lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato, and more!

Desserts

Giant Ice Cream Sandwich – If you are looking for a classic summer dessert with a twist, check out the Giant Ice Cream Sandwich.
