TDS employees give back
You can't find the community of TDS on a map because employees are spread across the United States. But just because we live all over, doesn't mean we don't share a common goal to give back to the communities we serve. At no time during the year is this more evident than at the holidays. Employees all over the country are chipping in, donating, and helping to make a difference. Find out how.
Seen On Pinterest: Ho-Ho Holiday Party Eats & Edible Gifts
Welcome to the first installment of “Seen on Pinterest,” a bi-monthly roundup of our favorite pins and posts from around the interwebs. We’re happy pinners here at TDS and there’s no better time to start a new series full of pretty pictures than the time of year when your newsfeed is filled to the brim with holiday toys and treats. Our first column highlights great goodies to gift or greet guests with at your next holiday soiree. From savory to sweet to spirits, there’s something here for everyone on your list.
Friday tech news roundup for December 6
Top stories: Amazon (and rumor has it, UPS) is jumping into the delivery-by-drone game, Google and National Geographic pair up to offer historic map content (literally and figuratively), and two million Facebook and Google passwords were stolen. In other news, MIT creates a camera that can see in the dark, Netflix unveils it's first animated series, Star Wars fans have to reasons to be excited, and I found two good tech gift idea lists for you.
Feeding our communities
The need for food is great and continues to grow while all too many continue to go hungry. To help make a difference, TDS recently made $1,000 contributions to several food pantries in southern Wisconsin—but the help doesn’t end there. Employees across the country are also stepping in to help in their own communities.
You can’t compare wireless 3G/4G to TDS’ 10G network
For many, understanding the differences between Internet networks can be confusing. There’s 3G, 4G, and at TDS we talk about 10G. Because the names are similar it seems like you might be comparing apples-to-apples. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. In fact, because the “G” means different things in both industries, it’s like comparing apples to oranges (maybe bananas).
Wait, who does what now? Part 2
In a previous blog, I explained some of the production roles on a movie. With this post, we will explore a few more. Today, let’s focus on some key film production positions you may not know a lot about: Production Assistant (or PA), Assistant Director (or AD), Script Supervisor, and Foley Artist.
Bake with Melynn, part 3: Peanut Blossoms, Melting Moments, and Pretzel Turtles (oh my!)
If you’ve been following along, Melynn, TDS’ employee and “Baking Goddess” is making 24 different kinds of holiday treats this year. By following her technique , you can too—and she’s even sharing some of her most popular recipes along the way. This week she's giving you her recipes for Peanut Blossoms, Melting Moments, and Pretzel Turtles.
Bandwidth is like Thanksgiving turkey
Not too long ago most people used the Internet for light web browsing and checking email. Internet service providers were able to accommodate this with their existing networks. Technology has rapidly advanced since those days and placed enormous demand on bandwidth and networks. In some ways, this situation is not unlike inviting extra guests to your Thanksgiving table...without buying a larger turkey. Let me explain.
Start a new tradition of giving
Thanksgiving means many different things for many different people, but in our home it has always meant giving thanks for the blessings we have. This year, I am thankful for the 60 years I had with my mom and am reminded that she always thought of others before herself. I decided to start a new tradition of giving to others in honor of my mom and am committing to doing at least one random act of kindness per day. I've gathered a list of 60 kind and giving acts (that don't cost a lot of money or even require much effort) that anyone can do any day, not just on Thanksgiving.
